The Ocean Race has confirmed a new partnership with marine weather technology company PredictWind to deliver a race tracking platform, which will make its debut during The Ocean Race Europe 2025 this August.
The collaboration marks part of a multi-event agreement between two organisations, with the system also set to feature in The Ocean Race Atlantic 2026 and The Ocean Race around the world 2027. The project aims to elevate the standard of race coverage, providing fans, teams, and stakeholders improved access to live race data and on-water insights.
The newly developed race tracker has been completely redesigned as a dynamic platform capable of delivering real-time positional data alongside integrated weather overlays, predictive routing, and telemetry feeds. It will also feature content updates from the fleet’s onboard reporters and crews, offering followers a window into life onboard during the race.
Commenting on the project, Richard Brisius, race chairman of The Ocean Race, explains: “From predictive analytics to immersive content from onboard the boats, the new tracker takes the fan experience to a new level.”
Jon Bilger, founder of PredictWind, described the partnership as a milestone for the company. He explains: “Our team has worked hard to deliver a product that doesn’t just track the fleet but tells the full story of the offshore race, in real time, with technology that’s never been this powerful or this accessible.”
In addition to its live functionality, a version of the race tracker will be made available for media outlets and race teams to embed within their digital channels. The aim is to increase visibility and fan engagement by enabling supporters to follow the race via their preferred platforms.
The new tracking platform will go live on 10 August 2025, to coincide with the start of The Ocean Race Europe in Kiel, Germany. The fleet of seven high-performance IMOCAs will race under the event banner of Connecting Europe, calling at ports in Portsmouth (UK), Matosinhos/Porto (Portugal), Cartagena (Spain), Nice (France), and Genoa (Italy), before concluding in Boka Bay (Montenegro).
