Royal Western Yacht Club announces B&G as technical partners for 2021

The Royal Western Yacht Club says B&G will be its technical partner for the key offshore races in 2021, namely the Plymouth Lonely Rock Race (PLR) and the Wolf Rock Race.

“It is great to be able to announce our partnership with B&G for the second season running,” says the RWYC’s Adrian Gray. “We had a fantastic response to their support during the original Lonely Rock Race 2020, in what were very difficult times. Following their multi-faceted support last season, including sponsoring the weather briefing by Miles Seddon and an online presentation to our club members on a virtual club night, B&G are proving themselves to be great club partners and we look forward to building the relationship as we head towards the PLR2021.

“This race has really caught the imagination of many sailors and has not been limited to Devon and Cornwall. It is perfect for those who want to race round the Fastnet Rock but do not want the expense of starting in the Solent. With over 40 boats from all over the British Isles as well as Europe already on our list, we expect to reach our maximum entry of 70 boats within the next few weeks particularly as the start and finish is from the same UK port. It is already a great entry for this inaugural race.”

The 508-mile course, 100 miles shorter than the original Fastnet race course, will also be the highest-ranking points race for the new, Southwest Offshore Group Series (SOGS). Classes will be offered for non-rated, IRC & MOCRA. Cruiser and one design classes can be accepted subject to numbers. Options on crew numbers are solo, double handed, 4-crew (the RWYC’s new concept) as well as full crew.

“It is great to be continuing and further expanding our support with The Royal Western Yacht Club and their events,” says B&G’s head of brand, Simon Conder. “They are a very proactive and passionate club, supporting and encouraging all levels of participation in sailing, which reflects our brand mission and heritage as well. We look forward to being a part of some great events.”
