Scam warning from Powerboat & RIB magazine

Telephone scammers will stop at nothing, and now the marine industry is being targeted using Powerboat & RIB magazine’s name.

“An advertiser received a call from a scammer suggesting they were from HSBC saying that there were multiple payments due to go out to Powerboat & RIB and that only if they were given their username for online access then he could stop the ten payments that were about to go out,” explains Hugo Montgomery-Swan, PBR editor. “When told by the recipient (who was suspicious) that they would call HSBC back, the scammer was insistent and bullying to get the username saying ‘it was the only way they could stop the transactions’. The recipient hung up.”

Hugo continues: “Powerboat & RIB has not requested multiple payments from any bank account, we do not have a means to do so as we do not operate an in-house direct debit system. Neither do we have access to, or store any, advertiser’s bank details. Please do not under any circumstances give this caller your log in or bank details.”
