Seldén Mast one-day seminars prove a hit with industry

Earlier this month (October 2023) saw the return of Seldén Mast UK training seminars in association with Technical Marine Supplies (TMS).

Presented by the team from TMS, Seldén’s UK distributor for the aftermarket sector, the training was carried out in Gosport where the UK mast manufacturer is based.

The one-day seminar covers a plethora of technical information focused around the Seldén product range, with a focus on the sharing of knowledge, as opposed to the more common sales seminar styles.

Since the initial training dates, the company’s have had over 60 industry professionals attend the seminar with an increasing number of people on the waiting list for future dates.

The day’s structure includes a factory tour – including the carbon fibre plant, an overview of the history of Furlex, an introduction to Sel-Bus, how to specify Rodkickers, pole and sprits based on displacement and use, the process involved in replacing a mast, digital support and an overview of deck hardware.

“A key factor in the process of developing the training seminars was a desire for us to empower our rigging community so they could offer the best possible information and service to their customers, and this course certainly helps with that,” says Nick Cook from TMS. “Once again, the factory tour proved to be the highlight of the day, with the little-known fact that the UK factory is responsible for all the carbon winding for the global Seldén group impressing the delegates.”

“Another focus was on the Seldén Sel-Bus system, which allows electrical upgrades to existing hardware, such as a Furlex, or in mast furling system. For example, the Furlex E system can be retrofitted to all yachts with Furlex dating back to 1997.”

Alex Spence of AS Yachting Scotland was in attendance at this month’s seminar. He adds: “Without doubt very worthwhile, from both a professional and personal point of view.”
