Superyacht technical seminar to cover nuclear, hydrogen and methanol fuel sources, and carbon offsetting
British Marine’s Superyacht UK Technical Seminar 2025 is taking place on 25 March 2025, at the Union Jack Club in London. Non-members are able to attend this new venue, which was announced earlier this year.
Under discussion is nuclear as a potential fuel source to help the superyacht industry meet its net zero targets. Lloyds Register’s Jez Sims will explore the application of nuclear technology in superyachts by looking at the advanced generation of reactor technologies.
Other sessions will include updates on the REG Large Yacht Code, delivered by the Cayman Island Shipping Register, and AI-driven cybersecurity led by Jeff Ames, CTO of Computer Network Defence Ltd.
Rachel Goult, MD of Yacht Carbon Offset, and Nigel Marrison, founder of Blue ESG, will share their insights on carbon offsetting and environmental responsibility. Later, Alasdair Reay, CEO of HPi Verification, will speak about advancements in hydrogen fuel cell technology, and its role in the America’s Cup chase boat.
Tobias Kohl from MTU will explore methanol as a ‘drop-in’ biofuel, while for those interested in yacht coatings, a dedicated panel discussion will highlight key strategies for avoiding costly mistakes in superyacht paint application.
