EBI and EFTTA partner on sustainable boating and fishing in Europe
Robert Marx, president of the EBI.
The European Boating Industry (EBI) and the European Fishing Tackle & Trade Association (EFTTA) have announced a new partnership to improve cooperation between the recreational boating and fishing sectors in Europe.
EBI — which represents the recreational boating industry in Europe — covers the boating value chain and engages in policy development and sustainability within nautical tourism. EFTTA represents European manufacturers and wholesalers of fishing tackle, as well as fishing tourism enterprises, and advocates for environmentally responsible recreational fishing. In a statement, EBI says this collaboration looks to amplify both sectors’ influence within EU policy discussions.
The agreement includes joint advocacy, data sharing and communication strategies. It prioritises EU engagement on the blue economy, marine access, environmental sustainability and tourism. The organisations say they plan to participate together in major sector events, including the EFTTA Angling Summit and EBI’s Blue Innovation Dock. They also aim to coordinate public affairs efforts and policy input regarding qualifications and recreational access.
Implementation will be supported through regular leadership meetings and shared action plans. While cooperating closely through the new partnership, both organisations will retain institutional independence.
Robert Marx, president of the European Boating Industry, says: “Bringing together boating and recreational fishing strengthens our ability to shape a sustainable and innovative future for Europe’s marine leisure sector. This partnership with EFTTA opens new doors for collaboration and ensures our industries have a stronger voice where it matters most.”
Gerard Bakkenes, president of EFTTA, adds: “This partnership marks an important step forward for Europe’s recreational fishing and boating sectors. Together, EFTTA and EBI represent two large sectors that support hundreds of thousands of jobs. Sustainability is at the core of what we do – from the products we develop to the way we engage with our environment.
“By joining forces, we can better contribute to the EU’s vision for sustainable Blue Growth and ensure our sectors remain strong, innovative, and aligned with Europe’s environmental goals.”
