The Boat Works increases refit space by a further 50 per cent

The Boat Works

The Boat Works — a shipyard and marina facility on Australia’s Gold Coast — has announced a further extension to its refit and maintenance facilities, adding 50 per cent more sheds and hardstanding. In addition, the supporting marina expansion will provide more in-water service berths.

Adding to the existing 70 sheds on-site already operating at capacity, the new facilities will include 10 new refit sheds (18m in height and 42m in length), which the company says will offer all-weather protection for trades to work efficiently year-round, ensuring progress of projects and the meeting of deadlines.

The first of the 18m sheds is now open, with the other nine scheduled to be ready for visiting vessels early in 2024.

“The development in major marine infrastructure marks a substantial step forward in our commitment to providing top-notch services to our valued clients,” says The Boat Works’ owner, Tony Longhurst.

“We are proud to provide the most sheds for any boat yard in the Southern Hemisphere. The benefits of undertaking work in sheds cannot be overstated. They provide owners with privacy and peace of mind knowing their vessel is sheltered from the harsh sun and elements.

“It also allows trades and other marine professionals to ensure a better-quality outcome and control over all aspects of the project.”

Designed to further streamline all operations and give customers more choice, The Boat Works has also added new hardstand space for vessels up to 50m, equipped with full power and recycled water.

Areas will be designated as ‘task-specific zones’ for different aspects of boat maintenance and refit.

The Boat Works has confirmed that the next stage of development will include a new boat building shed, extra car parking, and new offices and professional business suites overlooking the marina known as ‘The Dock 2’.

Longhurst adds: “We are laying foundations for The Dock 2. The momentum is staggering; we are confident that these enhancements will not only elevate our capabilities but also contribute to the success of our onsite skilled marine trades and service capabilities and performance.

“As we embark on this exciting chapter, we look forward to welcoming you to the new section of the Northern Superyacht Yard.”

In 2022, The Boat Works launched the fifth phase of its development plan, seeing its North superyacht yard double in size. Four new ‘mega sheds’ installed by The Boat Works last year are the tallest refit sheds on the Gold Coast, offering a 20-metre height clearance.

In Issue 9 of the Marine Industry News magazine, The Boat Works talks to Maryanne Edwards about Australia’s growing superyacht market and booming demand which is supporting the ongoing expansion of the shipyard.
