Ticket sales surge ahead of 2022 Genoa Boat Show

Organisers of the 2022 Genoa International Boat Show have recorded a 37.3% increase in online ticket sales, compared to last year’s edition.

Italy’s premier boat show runs this year from September 22-27, at Piazzale Kennedy in Genoa. At a press conference ahead of the show’s opening ceremony on Thursday (22 September), Saverio Cecchi, president of the Italian Marine Industry Association, revealed that the show continues to grow year-on-year.

“There are over 1,000 boats present, 998 brands on display, bringing 168 world premieres”, he says. “The Genoa Boat Show is constantly growing; this year, the exhibition spaces on the water have increased by 5.2 per cent while the new areas of the Levante waterfront are already under construction, which will guarantee unwavering growth for the next 10 years”.

Starting from 2023, the layout of the show will be redesigned in response to the ongoing redevelopment of the Levante waterfront, with new docks, new exhibition spaces on the ground, new accommodation, new services, and underground parking.

“Online sales of tickets to the Genoa International Boat Show, compared to the same date in 2021 – that is, 8 days before the opening ceremony – confirm a 37.3 per cent increase in purchases,” – explains sales manager for I Saloni Nautici, Alessandro Campagna. “Motorboats represent 51 per cent of the total units on display, RIBs 34 per cent, with sailing and multihulls together representing 15 per cent.”

The Mylius 80 by Mylius Yacht is the show’s flagship monohull sailing boat, with a hull length of 23.43 metres. The flagship for yachts and superyachts is the SD 118 by Sanlorenzo Yachts, which, at 35.75 metres in length, is the largest hull to feature the shipyard’s trademark asymmetrical design. For superyachts, the flagship is the Black Shiver 160 by SNO Novamarine, which is 16.7 metres long.

On the opening day, the Boating Economic Forecast features a presentation of the new edition of the publication Nautica in Cifre. The edition will provide the latest sector data, with a focus on the yachting industry exports, from the Edison Foundation and a preview of the new report produced by the Symbola Foundation regarding the geography of the yachting supply chain across the national territory.

Among other flagship events at the show is the Design Innovation Award, dedicated to the latest designs to be exhibited at the Genoa International Boat Show. The winners of the nine categories this year will be announced by an independent international jury, made up of experts from the worlds of design, academia and industry along with specialised journalists.

Anticipated guest speakers at Genoa this year include Tokyo 2020 Olympics gold medallist Ruggero Tita, Davide Tizzano, world champion and rowing gold medallist at the 1988 Seoul and Atlanta 1996 Olympics, and a member of the victorious crew that sailed onboard the Moro di Venezia during the 1992 America’s Cup, and Giancarlo Pedote, the Italian sailor who concluded the 2020 edition of the Vendée Globe, a world tour without assistance and without stops, boasting the best performance ever achieved by an Italian competitor.
