Marine electric drive manufacturer Torqeedo has announced a partnership with tech start up c.technology to develop smart motors.

The company says its industry expertise combined with the technical know-how of c.technology will create an innovative platform that takes electric boating to a new level, enabling boaters, commercial operations and fleet managers to enjoy a more user-friendly and connected experience through highly informative web-based and mobile applications.

“At Torqeedo, we are always thinking ‘beyond the boat’,” says Fabian Bez, CEO of Torqeedo GmbH. “That means considering the sustainable boating ecosystem holistically and asking a lot of tough questions. How can we make electric boating even more user-friendly, convenient and fun? How can we best leverage charging capacity in a marina? How can we deliver remote service and system maintenance? How can we use onboard battery capacity to its fullest? The answers to these questions, and many more, are all in the data.

“The partnership with c.technology is a significant step towards a better customer experience with e-mobility on the water, whether you are a regatta sailor or running a ferry service. By leveraging cloud services, our smart motors will set new standards and further consolidate Torqeedo’s position as a global market leader. With this technology, we will decisively shape the future of the marine industry.”

Torqeedo owners can also opt-in to allow Torqeedo and its authorised service centres to collect system information to provide the best service and maintenance experience and to provide anonymised data to be used in developing the infrastructure and services to support an emission-free marine industry in the future.

Christian Fehr, CEO of c.technology, comments: “We are thrilled to join forces with Torqeedo to revolutionise mobility on water. This collaboration aligns perfectly with our vision of creating connected ecosystems for powersport vehicles, and together, we will bring an unprecedented level of intelligence and efficiency to the marine industry.”

Torqeedo plans to showcase the new intelligent software system at METSTRADE (15-18 November 2023).

In July (2023), Torqeedo announced a new business structure, creating two dedicated business units to facilitate a focused approach to the company’s recreational and professional customers.
