Specialist marine manufacturer VETUS Maxwell is showcasing its range of bow thrusters at the United States Sailboat and Powerboat Shows in Annapolis, including the award-winning BOW PRO models for boats of 20-40’ – with a range for larger vessels of 45-80’ set to be introduced next month. Four boats fitted with VETUS Maxwell products will also be providing displays during a press demo day at Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park on Tuesday October 9th. Two boats, a 30’ Scorpion and an Eastport 32’, will be fitted with BOW PRO thrusters.

The innovative BOW PRO range combines VETUS’s highly-regarded electric thruster technology with its extremely quiet RimDrive, to provide near silent operation and precision proportional control. VETUS BOW PRO thrusters allow operators to command as little or as much power as needed with fingertip control and a runtime only limited by the size of the battery pack installed.

BOW PRO thrusters are highly durable, energy efficient, safe and reliable, and are fitted with a maintenance-free brushless motor. The induction motor can handle both 12V and 24V inputs, making the BOW PRO series suitable for almost all boats.

Chris DeBoy, VETUS Maxwell Vice President of Sales and Marketing, says: “We’re delighted to be able to show off our award-winning BOW PRO thrusters at Annapolis. As ever, our in-house engineering team has worked hard to develop a product with the best possible performance, while also being easy to install and maintain.

“The BOW PRO thruster is our latest fully proportional ultra-quiet brushless thruster with a longer runtime, both 12 and 24V units and tunnel sizes up to 185mm. The full range of thruster sizes for the BOW PRO series will be available later this year. BOW PRO thrusters provide phenomenal proportional control, making manoeuvring boats in tight spaces easier than ever before.”

BOW PRO thrusters are controlled by a proprietary CANBUS protocol with a standard or a fully-proportional control panel available. The second option, with a joystick, also comes with a lock function which enables the boat to be held alongside without ropes, making it easy to pick up or drop off crew.

In February, VETUS Maxwell BOW PRO thrusters received an Innovation Award at Miami International Boat Show. Judges said: “With its integrated brains, this could be the smartest bow thruster built to date.”

Joining partners at the Annapolis demo event are YANMAR and Glendinning, and other products on display include VETUS retractable thrusters and Glendinning engine controls and ProPilot joystick docking.
