WATCH: Daring heli rescue as yacht breaks up on rocks off Salcombe

Two crew have been rescued by helicopter when their yacht got into grave difficulties off the coast in Salcombe.

The RNLI reports that Salcombe’s all-weather lifeboat The Baltic Exchange III launched in scruffy seas and driving rain in response to a Mayday call from a yacht in difficulties off Soar Mill Cove on Saturday morning.

The lifeboat was joined on scene by a Coastguard helicopter and Cliff Rescue Teams where they found a yacht breaking up on the rocks with two people aboard.

The teams decided the safest way to rescue the casualties was a straight winch to the helicopter above. The two people were then transferred to Derriford hospital.

The lifeboat crew stood by while the transfer was completed before returning to Salcombe.
