Marine propulsion manufacturer Yanmar Marine International (YMI) has appointed Maarten Zwikker to the newly created role of ‘director operations’, a position intended to oversee operational processes across the organisation.

Zwikker will lead the development and expansion of YMI’s operations function, with a focus on efficiency and consistency across the company’s product portfolio, which includes engines, electric propulsion systems, controls, drives and parts.

The appointment follows the recent introduction of Yanmar’s third-generation control system. The VC30 vessel control system was announced at Metstrade 2025, with initial installations expected in new power and sailboats. Zwikker is expected to work with internal teams on production processes linked to the VC30, alongside ongoing developments in new engines and alternative propulsion systems, including hybrid and electric technologies.

Zwikker joins YMI from ASML in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, where he held the role of senior director service products DUV (deep ultraviolet lithography). Earlier in his career, he worked at General Electric’s gas engines business in Austria, holding executive roles in quality and service operations. He also held several leadership positions in service and sales operations at General Motors Europe in Germany.

Zwikker reports to Wouter-Jan van der Wurff, president and CEO of YMI.

Van der Wurff says: “We created the director operations role to enhance our operational standards. As we continue to expand our portfolio and introduce new and advanced technologies, it becomes even more crucial to enhance operational precision, consistency, and quality assurance. Through his global experience and proven leadership, Maarten will help us further improve customer satisfaction.”

Zwikker adds: “I am excited to join Yanmar Marine International at such a dynamic moment. Yanmar has a compelling reputation for reliability and innovation, and I look forward to enhancing the operational foundation that supports this. My focus will be ensuring every Yanmar product, from propulsion systems to controls, meets the highest standards.”
