Alan Goodchild receives British Marine’s Peter Millward Award

British Marine is delighted to announce that this year’s recipient of the British Marine Peter Millward Award is Alan Goodchild, MD of Goodchild Marine based in Great Yarmouth. Alan was presented with this prestigious award at Seawork International 2018, where his company was once again signing deals and handing over commercial craft to their new owners.

The Peter Millward Award is presented annually to an individual, identified by British Marine staff, who has made a significant contribution to British Marine associations. Alan was an exceptionally worthy recipient this year.

Alan has served as Chairman of British Marine’s Commercial Marine association for eight years, leading the committee following the association’s re-brand in 2011. The association which represents the interests of members operating in the small commercial marine sector, has benefited greatly from Alan’s knowledge of the sector and his passion for the industry. Alan has taken the association from strength to strength, and now it represents over 130 companies. He has built an excellent committee around him and worked with British Marine’s executive team to deliver some vital work for the industry, particularly around regulatory matters such as the Rescue Boat Code and the new Workboat Code. And more recently he has supported British Marine’s market research into the UK’s small commercial marine industry, which published its second report at Seawork this year.

Following his eight years of service, Alan has decided to step down as Chairman of Commercial Marine and last week he handed the baton over to Alastair Clayton, MD at Seaglaze Marine Windows Ltd, who was voted in at the Commercial Marine General Meeting.

Alan was presented with his award by Sarah Dhanda, British Marine’s Chief Officer of Membership and Services, who comments: “There is an army of individuals who give their time freely to drive forward British Marine through its associations and this voluntary service is vital to the success of our business. I am delighted to present Alan with the Peter Millward Award and recognise his commitment to the Commercial Marine association. British Marine is placing more focus on supporting members operating in the small commercial marine sector and Alan’s dedication and drive has put us in a strong place to build on our services for this sector.”
