Catalina Yachts and its sibling company, True North Yachts, have been acquired by Michael Reardon, founder and chief executive of Daedalus Yachts. The acquisition includes both brands, which are based in Largo, Florida.

Reardon has a background in the marine industry, including leadership of Daedalus Yachts, a company that focuses on high-performance, low-emission sailing vessels. He confirms that Catalina and True North will continue to operate out of their existing manufacturing facility in Largo.

Catalina Yachts was established in 1969 and is known for producing cruising and performance sailboats. True North Yachts manufactures Downeast-style powerboats.

“For over 50 years, Catalina Yachts has been a name synonymous with quality, performance, and integrity,” says Patrick Turner, president of Catalina Yachts. “Michael Reardon shares those values, and we are confident he will honour the history of our brands while guiding them into a strong and sustainable future.”

In a media release, Reardon states that the acquisition will not affect current staff and that the existing dealer network will remain supported. Plans for the integration with Daedalus include further investment in new model development for both the Catalina and True North product lines.

“We’re not just preserving the legacy – we’re building upon it,” says Reardon. “Catalina and True North are iconic American brands, and I’m honoured to lead them into the next era of growth and innovation.”

Jean Butler, wife of the late Catalina founder Frank Butler, says: “Frank believed in building boats that brought families together and gave people joy on the water. I believe Michael Reardon understands that spirit. Frank would be proud to see Catalina and True North in the hands of someone who values the people, the product, and the passion that built this company.”
