Construction starts on Heesen’s Project Sparta

The construction for Heesen’s YN20067, Project Sparta, is now firmly underway.

At 67 metres, and with an internal volume of approximately 1,200 gross tons, Project Sparta is the largest steel-hulled displacement motor yacht built by Heesen to date.

Her ultra-efficient Fast Displacement Hull Form, an iteration of the patented design by naval architect Van Oossanen, is complemented above the waterline by a dynamic profile created by Winch Design.

Perry van Oossanen of van Oossanen Naval Architects comments: “The Fast Displacement Hull Form of Project Sparta, combined with the sleek design by Winch and the optimized building methodology by Heesen, makes this yacht really stand out in terms of performance and efficiency. With engines quite typical for a yacht this size, she will easily reach her contract speed and outrun other yachts of this size, both in speed and range.”

Powered by two MTU 12V4000 M65R diesel engines, she will be able to reach a top speed of 16 knots, with a transatlantic cruising range of 4,500 nautical miles at 12 knots.

Described as a “pocket megayacht” by Andrew Winch, Winch Design has given the eye catching yacht a bold and sporty profile, incorporating a raised pilot house. The interior has a full beam salon, a feature said to be unique on a vessel of this size, while the transom area has a stepped aft deck and a 6.5-metre infinity pool.

The indoor dining area connects to the aft deck terrace and is sheltered on both sides to provide comfort both at anchor and when underway. Four guest suites are located forward on the main deck, two of which can be quickly transformed into a luxurious full-beam VIP owing to a sliding partition.

An offset spiral staircase encircles a glass elevator which serves the three decks. As well as the crew quarters and galley, the lower deck houses a walk-in wellness area, complete with oval Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and gymnasium.

The owner has reserved the entire bridge deck, with two suites – one located forward with a private outdoor lounge, and the other facing aft, with access to outdoor dining and lounging areas on a private terrace.

Tenders and toys will be stowed in a forward garage with gull-wing hatches.

The project is being managed by Arcon Yachts of Monaco and marks its third collaboration with Heesen. “Working with this Dutch shipyard is always a pleasure and we appreciate their quality and dedication. The keel laying is a milestone in the construction of Sparta and we cannot wait to see this project take shape.”
