Dubai shipyard launches new superyacht division

Grandweld Office Facility (Larger) Grandweld’s facilities can accommodate projects of up to 130m

Dubai-based Grandweld Shipyards has launched Grandweld Yachts, a dedicated division focused on building superyachts of 60 metres and above.

The shipbuilder is based in Dubai Maritime City and has more than 40 years of experience constructing vessels for naval, offshore and yacht support operations. Its facilities include more than 1,000 specialists, in-house engineering and production capabilities, as well as a network of subcontractors. The yard can accommodate projects of up to 130 metres.

Jamal Al Abki, general manager of Grandweld Shipyards, describes the division as a long-term investment in the yard’s development.

“We bring the facilities, the people and decades of experience building vessels for demanding conditions,” said Al Abki. “Our aim is to build a yacht business that represents the Emirates internationally and stays close to owners, from the first stages of construction to life after delivery.”

The programme has been developed in partnership with superyacht entrepreneur and designer Sergey Dobroserdov of YT Advisory. Dobroserdov brings almost 30 years of experience in international yacht sales and construction.

‘The world doesn’t need another Med boat’

“We have set the bar high. We aim to create a superyacht brand in the UAE with its own identity and a clear place in the international market,” says Dobroserdov. “The world doesn’t need another Med boat. These yachts reflect the Gulf’s culture of family and hospitality, with the capability to take that way of living around the world.”

Dobroserdov has defined the strategy, created the yacht range, developed the branding and established the approach to client relations. He has also brought technical partners on board and is working to establish an international sales network.

The first models are the Grandar 60 and Grandar 65, designed by Dobroserdov Design. The 60m and 65m yachts feature large interior volumes and sculpted exterior profiles, with elements influenced by traditional Arabian architecture. Their structural and technical development draws on commercial platforms previously built by Grandweld.

The yard says layouts are based around family use and hospitality, with majlis lounges, large dining areas and spaces designed to transition between indoor and outdoor areas. Mashrabiya-inspired screens provide sun protection and privacy, while deep overhangs provide additional shade. The designs also incorporate climate control, motion comfort and range for cruising across different regions and seasons.

The programme includes helideck technology with certified landing areas designed to accommodate helicopters in the Airbus H160 class.

International specialists are involved in developing the range, led by Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture. The engineering brief combines Northern European superyacht expertise with Grandweld’s experience of constructing vessels for conditions in the Gulf.

Grandweld’s existing yacht work includes refits, the delivery of a shadow vessel and servicing large yachts visiting Dubai. The yard plans to continue this work alongside new construction, with warranty support, maintenance and future upgrades forming part of its planned owner services.

The Grandar 60 is the first project in active development, with construction scheduled to begin in 2027. Further models are planned.

Grandweld Yachts made its international debut at the UAE pavilion during the 2026 Monaco Yacht Show.
