ExploMar unveils modular battery platform for electric boats

300HP electric boat from ExploMar

ExploMar, a technology company specialising in high-performance electric outboard motor systems, is introducing the Super/Island Battery Platform at the 2025 Venice Boat Show, which takes place from 29 May to 2 June. The platform will be presented at the AS Labruna SRL booth.

The Super/Island Battery Platform is designed to support electric boats operating at medium to long ranges, with a system-level energy capacity that can be scaled to different vessel types. Each outboard motor system can accommodate up to 270 kWh. Configurations with dual-motor systems allow for 540 kWh, while four-motor systems can reach 1,080 kWh.

ExploMar says this not only meets the high-frequency usage demands of working boats and leisure boats but also makes the electrification of higher-consumption craft, including medium-sized ferries, more feasible.

Last year, ExploMar announced it had been busy delivering its systems to Italy, the Netherlands and China.

The system incorporates battery cells with an energy density of 250Wh/kg. It supports 1C to 2C discharge rates and fast charging, with compatibility for 400V and 800V systems, allowing the platform to work with mainstream port fast-charging infrastructure.

ExploMar says that to support operation in a range of environmental conditions, the Super/Island Battery Platform includes a dual thermal management system. Liquid cooling ensures operation in hot climates, while an electronic heating system activates in cold conditions to maintain battery function. ExploMar says this thermal control supports operability across a variety of climates worldwide.

The system uses a compact modular layout with a double-layer cell stack measuring 710mm in width and 300mm in height, making it easier to install at the stern of vessels while maintaining balance. ExploMar’s battery management system and high-voltage E/E architecture allow support for up to three battery packs per system, simplifying installation in new builds and improving aftermarket adaptability for energy upgrades and replacements.

According to the company, the Super/Island Battery Platform is intended to eliminate the 200km range as a “technological ceiling” for electric boats, opening possibilities for applications such as island transport and coastal commuting.

ExploMar was founded in China in 2021 by professionals from the new energy vehicle, marine and aviation sectors. The company is based in Shanghai and operates in more than 20 countries and regions.
