Flite’s foiling FliteLab* AMPJet wins Red Dot Best of the Best award
Flite, the electric hydrofoil manufacturer and subsidiary of Brunswick Corporation, has been awarded the Red Dot: Best of the Best distinction for its FliteLab* AMPJet propulsion system. The product achieved a score of 99 out of a possible 100 points in the international design competition.
Developed by Flite’s performance and innovation division, FliteLab*, the AMPJet is a removable jet cartridge fully integrated within a foil board structure. The system is designed to deliver 25kg (55lbs) of thrust without creating additional drag from external components, establishing a new configuration in the foil assist category.
Designed by product architect Chris Reynolds, the system is engineered for prone foiling, winging, parawinging and downwinding, allowing riders to access waves that were previously impossible to catch by paddling alone. Flite launched FliteLab*’s range of foils in 2025.
The recognition marks a major milestone for the Byron Bay-based innovator and aims to open up a new frontier in foil surfing.
“Earning Red Dot: Best of the Best is a powerful validation of how far foiling technology has progressed,” says Nick Stickler, president of Flite. “AMPJet represents a fundamental shift in propulsion design, delivering performance, efficiency, and versatility in a way that expands what riders can do on the water. This recognition reflects the drive, expertise, and relentless focus on innovation that defines our team.”
AMPJet enables a single, streamlined propulsion solution that expands access to previously unreachable conditions.
The Red Dot: Best of the Best distinction is awarded only to the most innovative products in each category, recognising pioneering design and exceptional product quality.
Flite was founded in 2016 in Byron Bay, Australia.
