Garmin reveals its most advanced marine smartwatch

Garmin quatix 8 smartwatch

Garmin has announced its quatix 8 marine smartwatch, which features a new built-in speaker and microphone.

The quatix 8is available in two sizes – 47mm and 51mm – and has a claimed battery life of up to 16 days on the 47mm watch and 29 days on the 51mm.

Both models have a 1.4in AMOLED display, scratch-resistant sapphire lens and tough titanium bezel, while new leakproof buttons and a sensor guard protect the watch from the elements.

Susan Lyman, vice president of consumer sales and marketing, says: “From the open water to the office and everywhere in between, quatix 8 is equipped with premium features that support those who love the water through every part of their day. Reliable marine tools give mariners the control and awareness they need while boating, sailing or fishing. Then once it’s time to dock, the watch’s robust collection of wellness features and fitness activities can help them stay on top of their health and pursue their passions.”

The quatix 8 marine smartwatch has been tested to US military standards for thermal and shock resistance and includes a new ambient light sensor, ensuring the screen is easy to read even in harsh sunlight.

A built-in LED flashlight provides convenient illumination on the boat or at home with multiple light modes and a red safety light to help preserve night vision.

The quatix 8 is dive-rated up to 40 metres.

According to Garmin, the built-in speaker and microphone and a host of dedicated marine features, make the quatix 8 the ultimate smartwatch with which to control a helm.

Garmin says users can ‘confidently navigate the water, add waypoints for fishing spots and control other Garmin chartplotter functions with wrist-based voice commands via Bluetooth. When paired with a compatible smartphone, mariners can also make and take calls from the watch and use the phone’s voice assistant to verbally respond to text messages.

‘With just a few taps, quatix 8 acts as a remote for compatible Garmin trolling motors, Fusion entertainment systems and more – while also keeping users updated on conditions like water depth, speed, heading and wind.’
