Global Services appoints new chairman

Global Services has appointed Ian Cooke as its new chairman. Cooke, who has more than 30 years’ experience in the marine industry across yacht and commercial sectors, will lead the company’s next phase of growth . . . . while also continuing in his existing roles at marine equipment distributor C-Quip and Crewsafe Marine.
“Ian has a deep understanding of the marine industry and a clear strategy to guide Global Services into its next chapter,” says Doug Grover, director of operations for Global Services (which supplies operational equipment and associated services to the superyacht, commercial shipping and cruise sectors, and operates from bases in the UK, the Netherlands and Palma). “We are confident in his ability to build on our strong foundation and accelerate our global impact.”
Cooke says areas of operation for superyachts are expanding to new geographical spaces, so supply chain expertise, logistics and provision of parts and equipment must do the same.
“Global is already focusing on developing strategic manufacturer partnerships that will allow for improved service terms and a more predictable supply chain for both new build and operational vessels.
Streamlining logistics and digital capabilities
“The same philosophy is applied to our commercial and cruise clients, and by utilising our facilities in Exeter, Rotterdam and Palma, we will work with both UK and EU manufacturers to streamline logistics and customer access for B2B and B2C sales.”
New digital capability is also in the offing. “Global has been working on a new service platform that will deliver a much-enhanced customer experience. This will be reinforced and further developed in the coming months to provide a clear guide to the products and services offered, ensuring they are relevant for the sector of client operation.
“Our aim is to provide fast and easy access to orders and account information via a new platform, and ultimately, a corresponding app. And by doing so, we free up the Global team to focus on client support for all the more unpredictable elements of vessel operations.”
According to Cooke, Global is able to source parts and equipment from around the world and deliver it where and when clients need it “in one delivery, with one invoice.” By managing the predictable elements of this service more effectively, Cooke says he can focus on the swift management of the unpredictable.
“I’ve been working in the marine industry supply chain for well over 30 years, dealing with vessels from dinghies to super tankers, so I am very aware of the complexities and pressures they operate under. This experience, along with my own time spent on the water, allows me a strategic overview of how Global can support the never-ending demands of operational marine vessels. Global has a proud 30-year history of delivering to its demanding clients, so our job now is to take the company to the next phase, ensuring it remains relevant for another 30 years.
“The company’s global reach, talented team and strong commitment to client success present an incredible platform for continued innovation and growth. I look forward to working closely with the board, leadership team, employees, suppliers and clients around the world to shape the future of Global Services.”
