Italian marina reports growth in 2024 as occupancy rate soars

Marina Genova — a leading superyacht marina in Genoa, Italy — recorded an increase in key economic and business indicators in 2024, with revenue exceeding €15m, a rise of 20 per cent compared to 2023 and 32 per cent compared to 2022.
The marina reports that its occupancy rate ranged from 90 to 100 per cent throughout the year, up from 86 per cent in 2022, while over 6m litres of fuel were supplied, reflecting a 43 per cent increase from the previous year.
The marina registered 254 arrivals of superyachts in 2024. With three large docks and over 400 berths, including 100 designated for super and mega yachts up to 130 metres, Marina Genova continues to serve as a year-round hub for large yachts in the Mediterranean.
“It has been a year of great satisfaction,” says Giuseppe Pappalardo, who has led Marina Genova Aeroporto SpA as CEO for two decades. “We are extremely motivated to continue as we understand the importance of our role at the heart of the Mediterranean. We have created stable employment (approximately 100 employees within the Marina) and are generating economic benefits for the region, in turn translating into jobs and specialised expertise. It is with our commitment that we hope to secure a brighter future.”
Since 2019, Marina Genova has pursued projects focused on sustainability and energy transition. A photovoltaic system, operational since January 2025, spans 7,000 square metres across the marina’s buildings. It consists of 800 panels capable of generating 500 MWh annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 270 tonnes, according to the marina.
In a move towards supporting electric-powered vessels, Marina Genova has installed two rapid marine charging stations for small and medium-sized electric boats. This is in partnership with Aqua superPower, a company specialising in marine-grade AC and DC charging solutions with power outputs of up to 350 kW. The availability of these charging stations makes it easier to cruise within nearby marine protected areas, including Portofino and Cinque Terre.
Further investment in electric infrastructure includes three charging stations with six charging points for electric cars. Located within the marina’s 700-space car park, these are accessible to both marina users and the local community in Genoa Sestri Ponente.
Marina Genova offers more than 400 berths, including spaces for super and mega yachts up to 130 metres. It offers a shipyard area for maintenance and repairs, maritime agencies, and various services for yacht owners, guests, and crew.
Marina Genova is also progressing towards the distribution of next-generation clean fuels, with a commercial agreement currently being negotiated with international partners. The marina has deployed two Seabin devices, increasing the total number of these microplastic collection units to five. These devices have already removed more than 900kg of plastic and microplastic waste per unit in recent years.
“The upcoming 2025 yachting season finds us in full operation thanks to the significant investments made in recent years and the recent agreements that have taken us another step forward towards the future of yachting,” says Pappalardo. “We are proud to be recognised by our clients as an international excellence hub for large and superyachts. Our commitment to sustainable development and environmental respect is not only rewarding but also makes us feel truly at home.”
Marina Genova will host upcoming events, including Sea You – Yacht Sales and Charter Days on 23 to 24 April 2025, which will feature yacht showcases and discussions on industry trends. The 17th edition of Yacht and Garden, taking place from 16 to 18 May 2025, will include a Mediterranean garden exhibition and the Classic Boat Show, featuring vintage sailboats and maritime traditions.
Marina Genova holds a concession until 2092 and has received RINA certification under the “MaRINA Excellence” scheme, recognising its port services, tourism offerings, and sustainability initiatives.
