Jenkins Marine – more than just a workboat charter service

Specialist workboat charter firm Jenkins Marine recently received a call at 4am from the skipper of a 41m sailing yacht that had lost power (it was later discovered it had net caught in its prop). With no wind, the yacht was unable to return to port unassisted. The conditions were such that Jenkins Marine was able to mobilised its tug Polmear and crew within hours of receiving the call. Normally providing commercial towage and survey work throughout the UK, the Polmear was able to locate the stricken yacht and return her safely to Ocean Village in Southampton.

Poole based Jenkins Marine has stated that its is always ready to respond to tug or tow emergencies along the South Coast and has procedures in place to handle this type of call at any time of the day or night.

Jenkins Marine, operating workboats, barges and dredging vessels in Poole since 1988, has also just acquired the grab hopper dredger C.H. Horn from Poole Harbour Commissioners (PHC). Twenty five metres long with a capacity of 125m3, the C.H. Horn will complement the existing dredging fleet of shallow draft workboats and split-hopper barges, working quickly and efficiently to remove materials from difficult to reach areas.

This is a significant investment in the dredging fleet for Jenkins Marine and it has now secured a new ten-year contract to perform dredging services and provide marine support vessels for PHC within Poole Harbour and the Port of Poole.

Dan Jenkins, Managing Director of Jenkins Marine, says: “In our continued focus to deliver better dredging services to our customers we are pleased to acquire the C.H. Horn to our fleet. We have long focused on adapting, maintaining and improving our existing fleet investing heavily to make dredging production more efficient especially. Our mission is to provide the best possible service to our customers in marinas and ports on the South Coast and it was important we secure the contract to be responsible for the activities in our own back yard.”
