New polar expedition yacht charter company

Expedition yacht charter company, Nansen Polar Expeditions, launched this month offering adventure expedition charters, film and ocean research projects and wildlife conservation in polar regions.

Named after Norwegian explorer and scientist Fridtjof Nansen, the new company was founded by expedition guides and film advisors for polar regions, who worked on well-known productions including BBC’s Frozen Planet 2, Blue Planet 2 and British documentary The Penguin King.

Nansen Polar Expeditions will offer private charters as well as trips for film, television and research crews heading to polar regions. The company’s ice-strengthened vessel, MS Villa, is a blend of a working vessel and expedition platform.  The refurbished boat is an ice class B ship featuring modern navigational equipment, a 10-ton crane, ample dry deck space for protection of production gear and spacious guest accommodation onboard.

Co-Founder and Expedition Leader Martin Enckell says: “What sets Nansen apart is the yacht’s benefits and functionality, as well as our highly-skilled team. We’re honoured to have Norwegian explorer Liv Arnesen as the ship’s Godmother and have named one of MS Villa’s cabins ‘ARNESEN’, which fits right in with ‘NANSEN’, ‘AMUNDSEN’ and the rest of our heroes we named the guest accommodations after.”

The first expedition is scheduled to depart in August 2020 from Svalbard in Norway.
