Propspeed has announced a partnership with The International SeaKeepers Society (SeaKeepers), a Monaco-based non-profit that facilitates oceanographic research aboard private vessels.

The initiative focuses on promoting sustainable practices within the yachting sector, including the use of Propspeed’s biocide-free, foul-release coatings designed to reduce emissions and minimise environmental impact.

“Dedication to sustainability is vital to ensure a future for all of us – not just in our industry, but across all industries,” says Marcus Hamilton, CEO of Propspeed. “Maintaining the long-term wellbeing of our oceans has been a pillar of our business since inception, and we are committed to our sustainability journey and being part of the solution. We look forward to extending this commitment through our partnership with SeaKeepers to help widen awareness for sustainable initiatives around the world.”

As part of the collaboration, Propspeed Large Kits will be included in the SeaKeepers Sustainability Kits, distributed to participating superyacht owners. The kits incorporate energy-saving technologies aimed at reducing fuel consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and the spread of invasive species. Propspeed will also be listed as a global partner in the Green Guide to Boating, which outlines best practices for environmentally responsible recreational boating.

“This partnership with Propspeed reaffirms their strong commitment to preserving ocean health,” says Melissa White, director of South Pacific, SeaKeepers. “We’re excited to feature their innovative product in our Green Guide to Boating and Sustainability Kits, helping to promote eco-friendly practices and inspire boaters to protect marine environments.”

The International SeaKeepers Society supports marine science and conservation by using privately owned yachts for oceanographic research, educational outreach, and conservation initiatives. Its members include yacht owners, scientists, divers, entrepreneurs, and environmental advocates.

Propspeed manufactures foul-release, biocide-free coatings that prevent marine growth on underwater assets without the use of harmful toxins. The Propspeed Clear Coat is hydrophobic, creating a low-friction surface that prevents biofouling. Combined with adhesion properties for underwater metals, the system provides protection against fouling and corrosion, while reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Research indicates that underwater fouling can affect vessel efficiency. A test conducted by Netherlands-based shipbuilder Padmos in partnership with Techbinder, a vessel optimisation technology firm, showed that applying Propspeed to the commercial fishing vessel Windroos resulted in a 4.7 per cent reduction in fuel consumption. The findings highlight the role of maintaining smooth propeller surfaces in optimising efficiency and reducing emissions.

Propspeed’s product range includes Propspeed for running gear and underwater metals, Foulfree for transducers, Lightspeed for underwater lighting, and Stripspeed, a solvent-based paint stripper for underwater metals.
