Seldén Mast launches new winch range

New winch from Seldén Mast

Swedish marine equipment manufacturer Seldén Mast is launching a new range of manual and electric winches at METSTRADE, which takes place from 15-17 November 2023.

The drum of Seldén’s new winches features vertical ribs placed asymmetrically with an uneven distance between them, which the firm says gives sailors a strong grip while allowing for an easy, smooth release with the winch handle fitted.

This design allows a line under load to deform over the ribs, so that when the line is eased off the drum, all the indentations are not simultaneously reaching the next rib, ensuring the line will slide in a controlled manner with less tendency to ‘jump’ on the drum.

Seldén has termed this new design innovation Asymmetric Rib Technology (ART).

“Our CNC operators have done a fantastic job to machine all those different drum configurations our designers have come up with over the last six years,” explains Mats-Uno Fredrikson, director of marketing at Seldén.

“The final design has been on the water for two seasons, tested by both racing sailors and cruisers, and we are thrilled to get it out on the market. This is a come-back for us into the winch market and an addition to the E40i winch launched in 2019. “

Manufactured at Seldén’s factory in Gothenburg, Sweden, the new range of winches comprises manually operated 2-speed self-tailing (S-Series) winches in sizes 30-66 and electric 3-speed (E-Series) winches in sizes 40-66.

The S40 manual 2-speed self-tailing winch is priced at €890 (ex VAT), and the E40 electric self-tailing winch at €2,880 (ex VT), excl. SEL-Bus system.

Complementing its new winch range, Seldén is also introducing a new series of winch handles at METSTRADE.

The series consists of an ordinary thumb-grip handle and a Race GRIP handle, featuring long release levers on the sides of the handle that are pushed in as the handle is grabbed. This turns the locking plate so the handle can be engaged and disengaged rapidly.

Both series are hard anodized aluminium and available in both 8” and 10” length. They are also featuring a low friction palm knob with Acetal ball bearings.

The Race GRIP 10” is priced at €130 (ex VAT) and the Standard 10” at €97 (ex VAT).

Deliveries of both winches and winch handles are planned to commence in February 2024.

In August 2023, Seldén Mast launched Seldén Pro, a new app designed to ensure all riggers, sailmakers, boat builders and designers have the most up-to-date technical information about its products and systems.
