The Dockline Switch: how Marlow’s Blue Ocean initiative helps you rig responsibly
Every week, Marlow Ropes are seeing the impact from the harm they are doing to the oceans, yet equally every week they are now seeing new innovations and initiatives that are helping to minimise or prevent the impact. Marlow remain fiercely committed to environmental policy and objectives. They continue to strive forward in order to make rope-making and manufacturing more sustainable and to encourage the re-use, repurpose and recycle ethos that is central to how they operate.
One of their most recent projects included the launch of the BLUE OCEAN DOCKLINE – they have been buoyed by how well received this has been and are proud that this is a first in the industry. Due to the popularity and with environmental ethos at the core, Marlow will be discontinuing their standard pre-spliced Docklines, with the BLUE OCEAN pre-spliced Dockline now being the only option.
Marlow continue to develop new ways that this recycled yarn can be used, and continue to perform tests, working with eco ambassadors such as Conrad Coleman with his environmentally sustainable Vendee Globe campaign who is using Blue Ocean in his spinnaker sheets. The Clipper Race 2019-20 11 yacht fleet are swapping out their Main sheet covers and replacing standard polyester with Marlow’s Blue Ocean yarn, in addition to making the Blue Ocean Dockline switch.
More and more sailors are adopting the eco-conscious range of ropes and Marlow see this continuing to grow throughout the industry.
End users and supporters can help the #RIGRESPONSIBLY cause and make a small change with the Dockline switch. The Blue Ocean Dockline is available through the growing network of BLUE OCEAN STOCKISTS shown below, with more to be announced soon.
