Video: RS Marine CEO Jon Partridge on the brand’s global success
With a focus on the steady growth of the dinghy market, RS Marine Group chief executive Jon Partridge chats to Matt Forbes about the company’s impressive growth and innovation over the years.
He emphasises RS Marine’s global success in the dinghy sailing market, which he says is driven by continuous product development and adaptation. “We’ve seen steady growth over the years,” Partridge notes, pointing to new products like the RS Aero, which he describes as “revolutionary for RS.” He also highlights collaborations with organisations like Sea Cadets, which has led to significant sales increases.
Partridge also dives into RS Marine’s acquisition of Cheetah Marine, a renowned brand in the fishing boat market. He explains that while Cheetah operates in a different sector, it has a strong reputation, and there is a shared ethos between the two companies. Partridge reveals how he sees potential in growing Cheetah’s reach, particularly in North America, by maintaining its core strengths while exploring new opportunities. “There’s nothing wrong with being in a niche market as long as you can dominate that niche.” He believes that the brand’s unique offering of custom catamarans gives it a strong competitive edge.
Throughout the conversation with Forbes, Partridge emphasises RS Marine’s commitment to its loyal customer base, which he attributes to the sense of community around the brand. Reflecting on the company’s 30th-anniversary regatta, hosted by Hayling Island Sailing Club from 17 to 19 May 2024, he says: “I don’t really know quite what it is… it’s this collective thing that seems to work.” RS Marine’s focus on quality events, strong class associations, and listening to customer feedback seems to helps maintain this loyalty.
Looking ahead, Partridge is focused on keeping RS Marine accessible by “reducing the cost of entry to the sport,” ensuring the brand continues to thrive globally.
