Yanmar extends America’s Cup partnership ahead of 2027 Naples event
Yanmar is extending its America’s Cup partnership into the 2027 event in Naples, with the company using the competition as a platform for its marine technology and decarbonisation work. Wouter-Jan van der Wurff, president and CEO of Yanmar’s marine recreational business unit, says: “Innovation has always been central to the America’s Cup, making it a powerful platform for advanced marine performance.”
Technology and decarbonisation
The Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup takes place in Naples, Italy, in 2027. Yanmar, which has been confirmed as an Official Sponsor and Official Marine Sports Sponsor, has been involved with the America’s Cup since the 34th edition in San Francisco in 2013, when it was Official Technical Partner to Oracle Team USA.
The partnership continued through the 35th edition in Bermuda and the 36th edition in New Zealand, with Yanmar also acting as Official Marine Partner of the America’s Cup.
For the 37th edition in Barcelona, Yanmar and the America’s Cup renewed their partnership.
Yanmar says the competition provides a showcase for marine technologies including lightweight materials, foiling, hydrodynamics, aerodynamics, simulation, energy management and high-efficiency engineering.
The company’s marine portfolio includes lower-emission combustion technologies, hydrogen fuel cell technology and electric propulsion solutions.
Van der Wurff says the America’s Cup’s focus on advanced marine performance aligns with Yanmar’s approach to developing technologies for the wider marine industry. “We continue to develop technologies that support performance today and contribute to the long-term evolution of the marine industry,” he says.
Highlighting ocean protection
Yanmar also plans to use its involvement in the event to highlight ocean conservation and the health of marine ecosystems.
“The ocean is one of Earth’s most important life support systems, and protecting it is central to our sustainability mission,” van der Wurff says. “Through this partnership, we want to champion innovation, performance and responsibility on the water.”
Grant Dalton, chairman of the America’s Cup Partnership, says the event brings together human ambition, marine technology and the ocean.
“Partners like Yanmar understand that competing at the highest level means pushing the boundaries of performance and teamwork, while also recognising our responsibility to the environment that makes this sport possible.”
Yanmar Marine Sports
Yanmar will be present throughout the event under the Yanmar Marine Sports name, both online and at the Race Village in Naples.
The company says its online activity will include storytelling content, while visitors to the Race Village will be able to explore its approach to sustainable marine technology.
