Honda to relocate global head office
Honda has revealed plans to move its global headquarters Honda Motor has announced plans to relocate its global head office to the Yaesu District Redevelopment Area in Tokyo by the end of 2029.
The office will be situated in the high-rise floors of a mixed-use building currently under construction near Tokyo Station. The move is part of the Yaesu 2-Chome Central District Category-I Urban Redevelopment Project. Honda will transfer partial ownership of the existing Aoyama Building in Minato-ku, Tokyo, to Mitsui Fudosan Residential.
“It has been 40 years since Honda built the Aoyama Building as its global head office,” the company states in a media release announcing the news. “Honda has been carefully considering various approaches to establish a global head office function that will serve as a ‘hub for transformation and communication that fosters innovation.'”
Honda began a temporary relocation of its head office to Toranomon in May 2025, adopting a one-floor office layout, which the firm says is designed to improve collaboration. The company says that this layout has “strengthened connections among associates” and encouraged a wider range of discussions. With the planned move, Honda aims to secure office floors approximately 6.8 times larger than the Aoyama Building and 1.8 times larger than the current Toranomon office.
The Yaesu area holds historic significance for Honda, as it hosted the company’s head office between 1960 and 1974. The redevelopment project includes 43 floors above ground and three below, with a height of 227m and a total floor area of about 389,290m2. Facilities will include offices, retail spaces, a theatre, serviced apartments, an international school, and transport links.
Honda and Mitsui Fudosan Residential plan to jointly construct a new facility on the Aoyama Building site. Once complete, Honda says it intends to occupy part of the building and “explore opportunities” to use it as a space to “enhance brand value.”
