Huge oil rig hauled up River Tay
This is the moment a huge oil rig was hauled up the River Tay to join the Dundee skyline at the city’s harbour, according to The Courier.
The Rowan Gorilla VII was towed to the Port of Dundee.
Part of the Valaris fleet, the jack-up drilling rig’s legs stretch to 185m. It can house up to 120 people.
Seafarers were warned to steer clear of the Rowan Gorilla VII as it sailed into port.
It had been secured off the Angus coast prior to its arrival in Dundee.
The Rowan Gorilla VII was most recently contracted to oil company Chrysaor for work in the North Sea.
The length of time the rig will remain at the Port of Dundee, which is currently home to a number of other oil platforms, is not yet known.
A 100m exclusion zone has been placed around the Rowan Gorilla VII at the harbour.
The rig will also neighbour the Curlew FPSO at the port. The large Shell-owned ship is in the city for cleaning and waste disposal before being taken to Turkey for dismantling.
