Marina Vela Barcelona secures IPR permit for non-EU flagged yachts
Marina Vela, Barcelona Barcelona’s Marina Vela has received a permit enabling non-EU flagged yachts with non-EU owners to operate under Inward Processing Relief (IPR) within the marina. The IPR customs procedure enables non-EU flagged yachts to temporarily import into Spain for works, refits, or the installation of spare parts without paying VAT (21 per cent) or customs duties.
Yachts can open an IPR while staying at Marina Vela prior to moving to a shipyard for works or continue operating under the regime after leaving the shipyard and relocating back to Marina Vela.
A spokesperson for the marina says: “This is an important development for yachts looking to winter at Marina Vela.
“Barcelona and the surrounding region are already firmly established as leading hubs for refit and repair, and this new permit is a significant step in further enhancing the advantages and flexibility available to yachts choosing to spend the winter with us while undertaking technical works.”
Part of the Azulona Marinas portfolio, Marina Vela offers berthing for yachts from 12 to 90 metres.
According to the marina, with advance planning and the appropriate customs arrangements in place through yacht agents, the IPR process can be established ahead of a yacht’s arrival, helping ensure refit works, technical projects, spare parts, and associated services are structured efficiently from the outset.
Marina Vela’s new status enhances this flexibility, providing yachts with a streamlined option when choosing Barcelona as a destination for refit, general maintenance, upgrades, and operational support.
