MIN supports first Women in Marine event at METSTRADE

Women in Marine International - METSTRADE

Marine Industry News is supporting British Marine, Soundings Trade Only and METSTRADE to bring the inaugural ‘Women in the Marine Industry International’ networking breakfast and industry panel to METSTRADE 2022.

Taking place on Wednesday, 16 November, 9:00 – 10:30am, in the Elicium Theatre, the event kicks off with an opportunity to network and a light breakfast, followed by an industry panel discussion featuring dynamic female leaders from across the globe, which will take a deep dive into opportunities and challenges prevalent to women working within the marine industry.

“Having partnered with British Marine on Women in Marine UK-based events previously, it is wonderful to now see the event being brought to the international stage at METSTRADE,” says Lyndsay McClay, MIN’s commercial manager. “Marine Industry News is passionate about advocating for diversity within the marine industry, and is excited to be able to support bringing this event to a new audience.”

The event starts a new tradition for METSTRADE, following the success of the annual Women in Marine day at the Southampton Boat Show. The SIBS events have historically been championed by Suzanne Blaustone, CEO of Barton Marine, who has supported the partners of the METSTRADE event behind the scenes to help bring the event to an international audience.

Speaking on behalf of METSTRADE, Neils Klarenbeek says: “I am pleased to be launching our very first networking breakfast and industry panel for women – for the first time ever at METSTRADE. On November 16th, this will be the place to be for female professionals working within the leisure marine industry to network and share knowledge.”

British Marine CEO Lesley Robinson adds: “We hope that by holding more events like this, we can work together to ensure that the marine industry is more inclusive and diverse, ensuring that a person’s sex, age, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, or religion is not a barrier to working in the sector.

“Women in Marine has been a hugely popular and important part of the Southampton International Boat Show agenda over the years, and we hope that this will be the first of many future events here at METSTRADE.”

A Women in the Industry Summit and Industry Leadership Panel, hosted by Soundings Trade Only, was due to take place at IBEX in September until the arrival of Hurricane Ian unfortunately forced the event’s last-minute cancellation.

“Soundings Trade Only is an advocate for diversity, including women working in the marine industry. We believe that diversity of backgrounds, ethnicities, genders and ideas will drive innovation and industry growth,” says Michele Goldsmith, publisher of Soundings Trade Only and Soundings. “We are proud to partner with Metstrade and British Marine to bring the first female-focused international event to Metstrade 2022.”

Doors open on 16 November at 8.45am, with breakfast served promptly at 9.00am followed by a panel discussion, Q&A and networking opportunities until 10.30am.

To attend this free event, please register your interest via email. There are only 75 places, which will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. All genders are welcome.

To attend Women in the Marine Industry International, guests must already be registered as a visitor or an exhibitor at METSTRADE 2022.
