The Superyacht Eco Association (SEA) Index has revealed that Port Vauban, Port Gallice, and the Vieux Port of Golfe Juan (CCI Nice Côte d’Azur, Riviera Ports) in France are joining its network.

To encourage yacht owners to reduce the carbon footprint of their vessels, holders of the SEA Index certification will receive priority berthing for transit, winter, and summer mooring at Port Vauban, Port Gallice, and the Vieux Port of Golfe Juan, as well as access to the lounge bar at the International Yacht Club of Antibes (IYCA).

Riviera Ports (CCI Nice Côte d’Azur) is offering to cover up to 30 per cent of the certification process costs, encouraging its members to adopt more environmentally friendly yachting practices.

The new member ports join 16 ports across Italy, Saint-Tropez, and Bonifacio that are already part of the SEA Index programme.

In february 2025, MIN reported that Azimut-Benetti Group had partnered with SEA Index to integrate the SEA Index CO2 Emissions Rating tool into its yacht development processes.

The SEA Index: sustainable yachting

Designed to enhance environmental transparency in the superyacht sector, the SEA Index is an independent and impartial reference tool that allows stakeholders to measure the carbon intensity of yachts over 24 metres.

With certification verified by Lloyd’s Register, yacht owners can evaluate and compare the energy intensity of their vessels and benefit from a range of advantages in the SEA Index network of ports and marinas.

Promoting sustainable yachting on the French Riviera

Port Vauban, Port Gallice, and the Vieux Port of Golfe Juan form part of the Riviera Ports network and are managed by the Nice Côte d’Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI Nice Côte d’Azur).

With 1,500 berths and the capacity to accommodate yachts up to 150 metres, Port Vauban welcomes superyachts all year round. The growth of the yachting industry is evident in the increasing number of vessels visiting the South of France, which attracts over half of the global fleet of yachts over 30 meters each year.

By deploying the SEA Index, Riviera Ports is aiming to enhance environmental awareness and build on its ‘Clean Ports’ certification to improve sustainability across all its operations.

“We are delighted to welcome Port Vauban, Port Gallice, and the Vieux Port of Golfe Juan to the SEA Index network and applaud their commitment to sustainable yachting. Our partnership will increase the SEA Index’s visibility among yacht owners, captains, and crews, and in turn, contribute to developing more responsible yachting practices,” says Bernard d’Alessandri, secretary general of the Yacht Club de Monaco and president of the SEA Index.

“This partnership aligns perfectly with the environmental approach we have implemented in the ports we manage, all of which are certified ‘Clean Ports’. By encouraging yacht owners to assess and reduce their carbon footprint, we are strengthening the collective commitment to more environmentally responsible yachting. This initiative complements our vision of responsible and innovative port development,” stated Jean-Pierre Savarino, president of the CCI Nice Côte d’Azur.
