British Marine is preparing to launch the British Marine Training Academy – BM Academy – a digital learning platform developed for the leisure marine industry.

The platform has been created to provide structured online training and professional development for individuals and businesses operating across the sector.

According to the organisation, the BM Academy has been developed with input from industry stakeholders and founding partners, and the platform is intended to support training, upskilling and career progression across a range of roles within the leisure marine market.

Courses will be delivered online and made available on demand. British Marine says this format is designed to reduce the need for travel and time away from work, while enabling learners to complete modules at their own pace. Content will include short-form modules alongside more detailed technical material.

Provision will range from introductory content, through to specialist continuing professional development training.

‘A step change for industry’ claims trade organisation

“The British Marine Training Academy is more than just a new platform; it represents a step change for our industry. Skills, talent and knowledge are the foundations of a strong and sustainable sector, and the academy demonstrates our commitment to investing in people at every stage of their career,” says Lesley Robinson, CEO of British Marine.

“We have listened carefully to our members, businesses and training partners, and are creating a solution that meets the real needs of today’s workforce. With the support of our founding partners and more than one hundred subject matter specialists, this platform will transform how we learn, develop and grow – helping businesses build stronger teams, attract new talent and prepare confidently for the future.”

Multiple courses in development

British Marine says that multiple courses are currently in development, with additional modules planned. Subject areas will include technical competencies, leadership, compliance and innovation, as well as topics linked to future industry challenges. Further details on launch timing and course access are expected to be released in due course.

One of the first courses scheduled for release is ‘Introduction to the Marine World’, an entry-level programme intended for new entrants, career changers and employers onboarding staff. The course is structured to provide an overview of the sector and its core functions.

Early-stage development has involved founding partners Haven Knox-Johnston Commercial, part of Howden; Skandinavian Agency Services S.A.C Marine Surveyors; Aqueduct Marina; and Bartons Solicitors.
