Marine lighting startup DEXLIT is set to make its official debut at Metstrade 2025 with the launch of a new sensor-enabled, light-integrated gangway.
The new superyacht technology firm has also earned a DAME Design Award nomination for its innovation.
Built around DEXLIT’s modular “sandwich” lighting system, a deck-integrated solution engineered for yachts and marine platforms, including gangways, bathing platforms and exterior decks.
The product’s standout feature is its sensor-driven lighting system, responding dynamically to motion – for example, lighting up as someone walks along the gangway. The founders say this adds both a functional and emotional dimension to what is otherwise a utilitarian piece of equipment.
The startup emphasises that the product is easily installed across multiple surface materials, and each lighting module can be customised in colour and lighting patterns for new build projects and retrofits.
It can also be connected to a yacht’s safety network, illuminating escape paths during emergencies. For long-term durability, the system meets IP67/IP68 standards.
The idea originated from the founders’ time on the water, acknowledging a lack of premium, fully integrated deck-lighting solutions capable of matching the aesthetics and performance demands of modern yachts. Their first commercial application has evolved into a series of installations. To protect its core technology, a patent application was submitted in September 2025.
Christopher Urbschat, co-founder, comments: “Boats are a very emotional thing, and people love their boats. Some want something new and exciting for their car or house, but we wanted that for boats. That’s how DEXLIT came about. DEXLIT is the next step for anyone who wants to get even more out of their boat.”
DEXLIT currently operates with a production footprint suited to around 200 vessels annually, but the team plans to expand capacity through strategic manufacturing partnerships and investments. Meetings with state-funding bodies and private investors are underway as they prepare for the next growth phase.
While the initial focus is on the superyacht and broader marine market, DEXLIT also aims to expand its lighting technology into sectors such as luxury real estate, space, wellness and recreational vehicles.
DEXLIT will showcase its new gangway in two key locations at Metstrade: within the Superyacht Startup Zone at Stand 08.683C and in the DAME Design Awards Gallery, where it will be displayed alongside nominees across the show’s award categories.
