LKQ Aquafax equips youth sail training vessel with Navico electronics
Marine distributor LKQ Aquafax has supplied and supported the installation of Navico Group’s B&G navigation electronics aboard the Helen Mary R, an offshore sail training vessel operated by the Morvargh Sailing Project.
The upgrade provides young sailors (aged 14–19) with hands-on experience using professional, commercial-grade navigation systems during offshore training voyages. The Morvargh Sailing Project aims to foster teamwork and practical skills while introducing trainees to the technical sectors of the marine industry.
The vessel’s comprehensive navigation overhaul includes B&G chartplotters, radar and wind instrumentation. By utilising the same equipment found across the commercial and blue-water leisure sectors, the project gives trainees the opportunity to learn using the same equipment found on many offshore sailing vessels.
Through the initiative, LKQ Aquafax will highlight the role of advanced marine electronics in training environments and its value in developing the industry’s future workforce.
Nikita Rabbette, marine marketing manager at LKQ Leisure and Marine, says: “Sail training gives young people the opportunity to develop confidence, teamwork and practical skills in a unique environment. Supporting this project allows young sailors to learn navigation using professional marine electronics while also showcasing how technology plays a vital role in modern sailing.”
The installation of Navico B&G equipment will ensure the vessel remains equipped with reliable navigation systems while continuing to support youth development through sail training.
