Türkiye’s Mengi Yay joins Superyacht Builders Association
Turkish yacht builder Mengi Yay Yachts has joined the Superyacht Builders Association (SYBAss), increasing the organisation’s representation of yacht construction activity in Türkiye.
Founded in Istanbul in 1964, Mengi Yay began as a family-owned shipyard specialising in wooden yacht construction before expanding into steel and aluminium projects during the 1990s and early 2000s.
The company has delivered ten motor yachts and three sailing yachts over 40 metres long over the past decade. It currently operates two facilities in Türkiye, including a shipyard in Tuzla, Istanbul, and is constructing several custom yachts ranging from 45 metres to more than 60 metres.
SYBAss executive director Robert van Tol (who joined SYBAss at the beginning of 2026) says adding Mengi Yay would further strengthen the association’s representation of Turkey’s yacht-building sector.
“We are delighted to welcome Mengi Yay to the SYBAss community,” says van Tol. “Also, expanding our representation of the continuously growing Turkish yacht construction sector is important. We look forward to working together to address the opportunities and challenges our industry is facing.”
Mengi Yay chairperson Hüseyin Mengi says the company would contribute to SYBAss initiatives covering issues including regulation and sustainability.
“Joining SYBAss represents the beginning of a new chapter for Mengi Yay. We come to this table with sixty years of building experience, more than 200 deliveries, and a clear view of where our industry is heading,” says Mengi.
He adds that the company supports SYBAss’ recently published three-year plan and intends to participate in its implementation.
Mengi Yay’s membership brings its experience in both wooden and metal yacht construction to the association, which represents superyacht builders internationally and works on technical, regulatory and sustainability issues affecting the sector.
