Savvy Navvy reports record growth in 2021

Marine tech company Savvy Navvy has reported record growth for the last 12 months, breaking global user targets for 2021 and doubling revenue in the last quarter.

The Savvy Navvy app lets boaters check essential marine information and plan trips at sea at the touch of a button, acting as a digital cross-check to traditional navigation.

Launched four years ago, the UK-based company says it now has hundreds of thousands of users globally, who have collectively plotted more than 43 million miles on its navigation app.

Among the numerous major app features introduced this year are a departure scheduler, which the company describes as an industry-first. Meanwhile, the company has revealed a new function that lets users see 3D terrain along coastlines, which will go live shortly.

“We’re constantly evolving and making changes based on user feedback in order to get more people out on the water enjoying boating,” says Jelte Liebrand, CEO and founder of Savvy Navvy. “This year has been our biggest yet, and while some is certainly down to the big boom happening in boating at the moment, working directly with our end-users to hear their views has enabled us to make a better product that meets the market demand to simplify boating navigation.”

Liebrand (pictured left) adds that, in 2021 alone, Savvy Navvy’s partnerships have increased ten-fold, now covering multiple global regions and including everything from marinas, products and specialist boat insurers.

One of the latest partnerships set up by the company is with Swedish electric boat manufacturer X Shore.

“We are really keen to align ourselves with Savvy Navvy, who have the same eagerness as us to do something new in the industry,” says Stefan Wessels, tech innovation and collaboration lead at X Shore. “Their mapping experience is so much closer to what a modern consumer would expect.”

Savvy Navvy says that for 2022, it will focus on driving engagement, innovating and using technical advances, such as integrating with onboard systems like AIS and NMEA 2000.

“Our vision from the outset has been for Savvy Navvy to be in every boater’s pocket. With what lies ahead in 2022, we are certainly expecting to come increasingly closer to that goal,” says Liebrand.
